IDREA Climathon Chennai 2025: When Every Step Spoke for the Planet
The Island Grounds of Chennai came alive with energy and purpose as more than 2,000 runners took part in the IDREA Climathon Chennai 2025, organized by the International Decarbonisation and Renewable Energy Association (IDREA). The event wasn’t just a marathon, it was a movement dedicated to raising awareness on climate action and sustainable living.
The morning began with a lively Zumba session, followed by the flag-off ceremony that set the tone for an inspiring day.
The event witnessed the gracious presence of distinguished guests, including Everest Marathoner, Noble World Record Holder, and the first female athlete from Tamil Nadu to complete the Tenzing Hillary Everest Marathon twice, Ms. Nausheen Banu Chand, who officiated the flag-off; Mr. Sudhansu Bhusan Prusty, Managing Director & CEO of NeXHS; Dr. Saravanan Manickam, Country Head, NORDEX Group; and Mr. DVR Murthy, CFO, Nordex India, along with RJ Mirchi Joe. Their presence reflected the shared commitment between corporate leadership and environmental responsibility.
















The Climathon featured five race categories – 21.1 km, 10 km, 5 km, 3 km, and 1 km – catering to diverse age groups. The 1 km category was dedicated to youth aged 14–17 years, encouraging early participation in climate action, while other categories welcomed adults 18 years and above, symbolizing leadership through example.
In the 5 km category, Reverse National Runner Mr. Ashok finished with a timing of 27:18 minutes.
The IDREA Climathon Chennai 2025 is a flagship marathon dedicated to climate action and sustainable development. Organized by the International Decarbonisation and Renewable Energy Association (IDREA), the event aims to inspire individuals to adopt sustainable lifestyles and support the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It brings together citizens, corporates, and youth to promote awareness on reducing carbon footprints, conserving resources, and protecting the environment.
