ICC Women’s World Cup winning Indian team captain Harmanpreet Kaur felicitated at Sathyabama University in Chennai!

A felicitating ceremony was held at Chennai, Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology which has been renowned for its 38 years of educational service, proudly welcomed Indian Women’s Cricket Team Captain Ms. Harmanpreet Kaur on her first visit to South India after leading India to a historic World Cup victory.

The ICC Women’s One-Day World Cup cricket series has concluded in India and Sri Lanka with great fanfare. The Indian team led by Harmanpreet Kaur and the South African team led by Laura Wolvaard advanced to the final of this series, in which a total of 8 teams participated.

The Indian women’s team defeated the South African women’s team by 52 runs in the final match held at the D.Y. Patil Cricket Stadium in Navi Mumbai. With this, the Indian women’s team created a record by winning the championship title for the first time in the history of the World Cup series. Following this, congratulations poured in from various quarters for the Indian women’s team players.

Following the victory in the Women’s World Cup, Indian women’s team captain Harmanpreet Kaur was given a rousing welcome with drums at a felicitation ceremony held at the Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology campus in Chennai.

The university’s Chancellor Mariajeena Johnson and President Mary Johnson, who attended the ceremony, felicitated our pride of India Ms. Harmanpreet Kaur with a shawl, garlanded her, and presented her with a souvenir. The vice-chancellors of the university also attended the ceremony.

Following this, the Indian women’s team captain presented a cricket bat and an Indian women’s team jersey signed by her to the university’s Chancellor Mariajeena Johnson and President Mary Johnson.

Earlier, the world-class M.J. Indoor Stadium was inaugurated by the Indian women’s cricket team captain Harmanpreet Kaur by cutting the ribbon.

Ms. Harmanpreet addressed the electrifying student crowd in the “Sathyabama Indoor Stadium”, shared her experiences of winning the World Cup as a team, the journey behind the success of her team in the World Cup campaign, and the importance of “hard work” before and “humility” after achieving success.

“Success comes from consistent effort, belief in oneself, and staying humble even after victory,” Ms. Kaur shared, inspiring thunderous applause from the students.

Following that, the host asked Ms. Harmanpreet who the famous actors of Tamil cinema in Chennai were. She said, “After we won the World Cup, when I was in Thailand, actor Rajinikanth contacted me on his cell phone and spoke to me for a while. He congratulated me on the victory and achievement.

When I came to Chennai, I thought that Rajinikanth would be on this stage with his family and I would meet him. But it turned out that he had gone to Singapore for a movie shoot.”

The event celebrated not only India’s remarkable achievement in women’s cricket but also the empowerment and inspiration that women athletes bring to the nation. The captain’s visit motivated young minds and reinforced the importance of perseverance, leadership, and dedication in all walks of life. It is noteworthy that after the Indian women’s cricket team won the World Cup, the Prime Minister and the President of the country congratulated them on behalf of the government, and a felicitation ceremony was held in Chennai on behalf of Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology.
