Swami Dayananda Krupa Home hosted Akanksha 2024, a special open house event in celebration of World Disability Month. The event, held at the Krupa Home’s premises in Maduvankarai, Sriperumbudur, was graced by Mrs. Sheela Balaji, Chairperson and Managing Trustee of AIM for Seva, Dr. E.S. Krishnamoorthy, Founder of Buddhi Clinic and Neurokrish Foundation, and Mr. R.V. Giridhar, CEO of Swami Dayananda Krupa Home.
The programme offered guests a unique opportunity to experience a “Mini Day at Krupa,” where they interacted with residents, participated in various activities, or observed them in progress. The open house showcased a range of therapeutic and creative activities, including Sports Therapy, Art Therapy, Tie and Dye, Tailoring, Block Printing, Weaving, Paper Bag Making, and Flower Dhoop Making.
The event also featured talks highlighting the deeper significance of these activities and the importance of structured routines in supporting adults with developmental delays. The programme also included insightful experience-sharing sessions from the parents of Krupa Home residents.
Going forward, Akanksha will be held as an annual event every December to celebrate diversity and inclusion.
About Swami Dayananda Krupa Home (A Unit of AIM for Seva)
Swami Dayananda Krupa Home (A Unit of AIM for Seva) is a residential facility that provides long-term support for adult men with developmental delays and disabilities. It was instituted by Pujya Swami Dayananda Saraswati as a place that would provide a safe home-like environment for adult men with developmental delays. The seed of the idea was sown when he observed some of his followers and students, who were parents to children with developmental delays. From individualised daily routines to specialist medical intervention to maintaining constant supervision, the parents and caregivers felt helpless. In particular, the parents would often share their worries about who would care for their children after their own lifetimes. To address these concerns, Pujya Swamiji conceived of and instituted Krupa Home. The land for the facility was donated by Smt. Saroj Goenka.
The facility is a 10-acre lush green campus with thoughtfully planned facilities and empathetic care provided for adult men (18 to 65 years of age), with wide-ranging developmental delays and disabilities. Currently, we have 40 residents living at Swami Dayananda Krupa Home, with room for more.
